The Versis® system filters cold-pressed rapeseed oil to produce renewable fuel and animal feed, driving sustainability and reducing waste

THE CHALLENGE
Our customer was looking to embark on a new commercial activity by using their cold-pressed rapeseed oil as biomass to the renewable fuel industry. To do this, they required a filtration solution that would provide them with a yearly production of 20 million litres of high quality cold pressed rapeseed oil. They were also looking to achieve a capacity of 40,000 tonnes of cake generated by the filtration process to produce animal feed compound, their key product line.
This would be a win-win situation for the company, as they would be able to produce a sustainable product while also reducing waste.

THE SOLUTION
The Amafilter® team advised the customer that the Versis® pressure leaf filter system would be capable of delivering the quantities of rapeseed oil and cake they required.
The Versis® system would provide a better filtration solution than a filter press, which the customer was also considering, as the Versis® is a closed system capable of delivering a clean and hygienic process.
As it is also an automated system, it requires low maintenance interventions, making it cost effective and contributing to a safer working environment.

THE RESULTS
The Versis® pressure filter leaf system proved to be the perfect solution and met the customers capacity targets for both renewable fuel and cake production. As a result, the customer purchased an additional four Versis® pressure leaf filter systems over a number of years to further expand their plant capacity.

“With this plant capacity, we can make our contribution to sustainability on a daily basis as rapeseed accounts for the largest proportion of biomass used for the production of renewable fuel.
The rapeseed cake produced from the filtration process is further processed into our compound feed plant as a feed component, completing the sustainable cycle. The two processes provide us with a strong commercial activity, securing our financial future whilst contributing to our sustainability goals.”
